Carbon Offsetting

How can Carbon Offsetting help prevent climate change?

We all contribute to climate change everyday, and almost every activity we do in our business will have some affect on our carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and the size of our carbon footprint.

You can reduce your carbon footprint in several ways - reduction is, of course, the first step you should take by introducing good environmental and energy management policies, both in the workplace and outside.

Another way is to cancel out some of your carbon footprint by supporting sustainable energy projects, such as tree planting, or investment in renewable resources like solar and wind power. This is Carbon Offsetting.

There are a number of emission reduction consultancies that will help you buy carbon offsets. These can be purchased in small or huge blocks, with the money then invested in developing carbon reduction projects around the world.

These consultancies will typically be suppliers of Verified Emission Reduction (VERS) and Certified Emission Reduction (CERS), and operating in line with international standards.

But as well as the larger consultancies, there are not-for-profit organisations that will set-up ethical, community-based carbon reduction and carbon offsetting projects in the UK. These operate mainly in the UK and on a smaller scale.
