Need for Action

According to the Carbon Trust, office-based business activities are responsible for the emission of around 6.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, and it’s estimated that energy savings of up to 20%, equivalent to more than £157 million, are possible across the sector.

Although office-based companies are by no means the largest energy consumer, 6.8 million tonnes of C02 is significant. But the good news is that both energy usage and associated costs can be cut, with little or no capital cost.

The main energy consuming areas within offices are lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, office equipment and building fabric. However, the difficulty so far for SME businesses has been finding an all-embracing yet manageable path forward.

Among the many green initiatives talked about today, there are very few practical steps and actions that have been consolidated to provide a simple, sustainable, easy to reference action plan. Energy Efficiency in Business has achieved this.

The EEiB model will enable your business to put together an Environmental Management System that matches its size and activities, and endorses your commitment to reducing the environmental impact of your business.
